Her mother taught her on how to communicate within the aquamarine lifestyle. While being human, her mother taught her on how to act like a proper lady and be open about her power. Her father, does teach her on how to have manners, even though he could be overprotective of her at times, and does not want her powers to be discussed in the public.

Background: Kayla was born as an ordinary human baby until she discovered the water for the first time in the Underwater Kingdom, Atlantica. Her father was in the state of shock when her daughter saw Finns for the first time during her first bath-time. Ariel, her mother had to tell her husband about the time that she was a mermaid during those three days when being an ordinary human. As Kayla grew up, she started to get used her having her powers transitioning from mermaid to human sporadically; her mermaid powers would come out when being in water and when being a human, she walks like a regular human, and does communicate with aquamarine life in fish tanks, as her powers are still there. Her mother even taught her on to defend herself when remembering that one fight in the past.
How they got into Auradon Prep (if the character is a student): As her mother was talking to her about going to a public place where there are people like her, she was excited and wanted to go. She was nervous at first, but, after a little friendly push from her mother, she wanted to go.
Job (if the character has one): She does teach swimming lessons in her mermaids form for fun and is not afraid to admit that she is a mermaid.
Pets (if the character has any): She has a fish named Crystal.
