Name: Zephyr
Descendant of: Esmeralda and Captain Phoebus but does not know it. Raised by Persephone, the Goddess of Spring and Mr. Todd.
Age: 12
Team: Neutral
How they got into the school: Mr.Todd and the Goddess of Spring have some connections at Auradon Prep and they arranged for Zephyr to attend the school.
Background: Zephyr has very few memories from his childhood. Many of his early memories have always felt ‘fuzzy’ to him, as if something is missing. He has no memories of his parents or his family. No matter how hard he tries to remember something else, he can never got past a certain memory; the memory of being lost and alone in the forest then being found by Mr. Todd who took him to live with his mother, Persephone. This caused Zephyr a great deal of confusion, as ever since he can remember, he has had dreams (and sometimes nightmares) of himself playing with an older boy and girl. Sometimes a beautiful woman with raven black hair and a very tall man with golden hair would show up in his dreams. Although he could never see their faces, he always felt that the two people are smiling.
Whenever he would tell his mother, Persephone about these dreams, she would always smile and shake her head at him. Once he told her that he thought they were dreams of his real family and she looked at him sadly and told him that anything was possible. Then she kissed him on the forehead and Zephyr immediately forgot about it and never really brought up the subject again. It didn’t stop the dreams though.
While his nights were filled with confusing dreams and nightmares of being lost or being snatched away by shadows and black wings, Zephyr’s days were full of play and endless sunshine. Because his mother was the Goddess of Spring, it was always spring and summer in her personal garden and manor home. The trees and flowers were always in full bloom, the berry bushes were always full of ripe juicy berries, and it was always warm, even when it rained. Often, there would be animals in the garden whom Zephyr would play hide and seek or tag. All of Zephyr’s friends were animals as there were no other children and the fairies were often too snooty to play with a ‘scruffy, clumsy, pipsqueak of a mortal Boy!”, but his favorite and closest friend was a full-grown, male red fox whom Zephyr called Crevan. Whenever Crevan visited, Zephyr would spend all his time with the wily fox. They would often leave his mother’s garden early in the morning and would not return until long after sunset. Together they would explore the forest and had many adventures.
Once a month, Mr. Todd would come to visit and he would take Zephyr out into the forest for a few days. On these trips, Zephyr learned valuable skills like tracking, hunting, orientation, map skills, knife-fighting and archery, the kind of skills that a huntsman would know or someone who had lived all their life in the forest. Mr. Todd also taught Zephyr other skills that would have made his mother frown if she had known; skills to with cards, sleight of hand, illusions, lock picking and pickpocketing. Sometimes, when he was with Mr. Todd, it felt as if he was learning these skills for the first time even though he had memories of doing these things before. Other times, it felt as if he had learned how to do similar things but with different person, in a different place. Sometimes he would tell Mr. Todd about these feelings but the stoic woodsman would merely shrug and say that anything was possible. Then he would ruffle Zephyr’s hair and the young boy would forget all about his confusing thoughts and half-memories.
This was Zephyr’s life until he turned 12 and his mother told him that he was going to be sent to a special school where he would learn new things and meet other children. This made Zephyr very excited as he had never met another human child however, it also made him unhappy as he would have to leave his mother, his home and all his friends, including Crevan. Persephone told Zephyr not too worry as she would be keeping an eye on him and he would make new friends. As for Crevan, she told Zephyr that the fox would never be far away from Zephyr at the school. This only made Zephyr confused, how would Crevan find him when he was so far away at school?
Despite his questions, Persephone never explained what she meant and on the day Mr. Todd came to take Zephyr to Auradon Prep, his mother gave him one last piece of advice, “Get in touch with Robbie Goodfell. Although, everyone at the school will probably know him as Puck.”
Personality: Zephyr is a very energetic, lively, carefree, happy, mischievous and intelligent young boy. It is very hard to make him angry or annoyed because he enjoys life so much and is quite happy to just go with the flow. He loves the outdoors and going on adventures. There is nothing Zephyr loves better than scampering through the woods and making new discoveries with his many animal friends. As a result, Zephyr is often dirty and covered in a thin layer of dirt because he spends so much time in the forests. He also loves making jokes and playing pranks on people. When he lived in his mother’s garden, Zephyr would often play pranks on the fairies that lived there, much to their dismay and everyone else’s entertainment .
On the other hand, Zephyr is also very confused about his past. He has no idea who his family and his parents are(were?) which causes him a great deal of confusion and distress. Most of the time, Zephyr just hides his complicated feelings behind a ready smile and laugh like sunshine. In fact, you would never know that there was anything wrong with him unless he told you about his nightmares or his past. As for his strange dreams and nightmares, these often leave Zephyr strangely unhappy and occasionally irritated in the mornings. As a result, he is not always in the best mood in the mornings and it is best to leave him alone until he has had a large bowl of oatmeal and a steaming mug of hot chocolate.
